how i did it

The good ideas show up in the truck. Mine used to die there.

Every owner I know gets their best thinking away from the desk. Driving between jobs, walking the yard, halfway through dinner. Then it is gone, or it is a half sentence in a notes app nobody opens again.

I fixed that for myself with something on my phone that took about twenty minutes to set up. I tap a button, say the thing out loud, and it shows up in the list I actually work from. No new app to pay for, no typing, no holding onto it until I get back.

The part worth copying is not the setup. It is what I did before I trusted it.

The first version looked like it was working. I would talk, it would finish, no error, nothing on the screen. Then I noticed some ideas were never showing up. Anything I said with a long pause in the middle, or a name I put quotes around, quietly went nowhere. The button still looked happy.

So now, before I rely on anything like this, I hand it the ugliest input I can think of and then go look at the other end to see whether it landed. Not the tool telling me it worked. The actual list, with my own eyes.

That is worth doing on anything that captures something for you. A contact form. A booking widget. A review request. The bad version of these does not break loudly. It stops delivering, and you find out from the customer who says they filled it out weeks ago and nobody ever called.

Mine holds up now, which mostly means I stopped being the weak link in my own list.

If you want the same thing, I wrote it up as Talk to your backlog.
